WHO WE ARE
The
Parks Society of Cambodia, also known as Parks Cambodia, is a registered non
governmental charity. It is operated by national and international volunteers.
The Society combines international management expertise with in-depth field
experience. An Executive Director assisted
by a board of advisors oversees program implementations. The Parks Society is politically
independent and works with all stakeholders of protected areas, in
particular local communities.
The
archeological sites of Angkor were declared the first national park of South
East Asia in 1925. Cambodia has 23 protected areas, including 7 national parks.
All of them are threatened by commercial logging and other illegal activities.
Underfunded and understaffed, Cambodia's parks are dying quickly. The Parks
Society aims to help implement efficient and sustained conservation for all
protected areas of Cambodia.

Kouprey!
Our
mascot is the legendary Bos Sauveli,
known by Cambodians as Kouprey (Forest Bull). Kouprey is the
country's national animal. Folk traditions describe Kouprey as being wise beyond
his years and strong as an elephant. Unfortunately, Kouprey's home forests
have dramatically decreased over the past years. He came knocking on our door
some time ago, so we gave him the job.
